Tony’s Story
Recovery Triumph: Narcotics
I have been in narcotics anonymous. For 4 yrs 11 months without relapse. I started out with lots of meetings, completed 12 steps guide with a sponsor. Today I have a strong foundation. I do not practice any religion or religious ideology or dogma. I attend n.a meetings once or twice most months. I don’t know for sure if there is a God. I dont believe in a personal God or goddesses and gods. I believe in the forces of nature and the natural laws. The more I learn about the Bible the less I believe about the Bible. Spirituality is connection with self and others.this belief keeps me clean in recovery. Honesty, open mindedness and willingness are spiritual principles I live by. Peace and thanks for allowing me to share.
This is similar to the way I am in my recovery……I have found the foundation of AA absolutely helpful and continue to go to meetings once or twice a month at least but I have never taken to the religious side of things as all religions seem to be greared at the same thing and for me the overriding principle is living by pure values and understanding myself and others. I have a very natural faith and spirituality which is based on the wonder of life and nature….I believe there is probably some kind of connection and for me this power is the soul of the word and whatever it is that resonates in those vibrations being spoke of in string theory! But I don’t search endlessly anymore for a belief which suits me; I just have a general feeling of connectedness and serenity based on such principles. Well done for staying clean and sharing your story with others……….as you say connectedness is important! The biggest problem for us addictive types is feeling disconnected from others, from society and from life itself. I have never felt more connected to whatever it is but I definitely have a higher state of consciousness nowadays……though that would be expected!. However, I didn’t just go from being unconscious to conscious in a drunk black out to sober sense, it has also been a true awakening to a consciousness of a much higher and greater meaning and spiritual capacity in life.
Thanks for sharing 🙂
