Robert Downey, Jr. to Produce Rehab Drama for Showtime
Robert Downey, Jr. has personal experience in recovering from addiction. In 1999 Downey reported being addicted to drugs since the early age of 8 years old. After numerous arrests, time in prison, stays in rehab, a failed marriage, and years of halfhearted attempts to get clean, Downey got sober in 2003. Ever since, Downey’s career has become very successful and he has maintained sobriety.
There have been reports that Robert Downey, Jr., his wife Susan Downey, along with Gary Lennon (who has written for Justified and Orange Is the New Black), will be producing a rehab drama for Showtime. Downey will presumably use his own experiences with addiction recovery for this series.
Hopefully this show will not only be entertaining, but also present a realistic picture of people in addiction and the process of recovery.
What are your thoughts? Do you think that you could produce/write/star in a show about recovery or rehab? Are you looking forward to this show? What are some concerns you have? Are you going to watch it?
