A Powerful Sickness: Overcoming opiate addiction
In a piece for TheFix, Zachary Siegel chronicles his struggle overcoming opiate addiction while also attempting to attend school. Siegel talks about the various excuses and behaviors that allowed him to continue in his addiction until it became unbearable. After finally getting sober, Siegel returned to school. “After doing quite well, at nearly two years sober, finishing up school, publishing, researching, and so on, it hit me that going to college sober is like cheating, cheating in that it is unfairly easy.”
