Binge Eating Disorder (B.E.D.) More Common in Adults
B.E.D. is different from bulimia and anorexia in that is is not associated with the restriction of eating, the purging of food, or doing other forms of compensatory activities. This disorder is distinguishable by eating high levels of food in a short amount of time occurring at least once per week for at least 3 months. It is not just overeating in general, is it eating way more than a normal sized meal within a short period of time. Often those who do feel out of control of their eating and experience distress, shame or guilt about the binge eating and may hide the behavior from others. This condition puts individuals at risk for becoming overweight or obese. This disorder is more common in adults whereas other eating disorders are more common in adolescence.
