Hoarding: What’s really going on?
Hoarding involves a number of things that cause an individual to be unable to function effectively, such as, excessive buying beyond financial means or buying beyond the ability to store, maintain, or organize the purchased items. Another problem associated with hoarding is the inability to part with items or let someone touch your stuff due to extreme anxiety. It can drive wedges between family and friends and it can cause severe impairments to the function of the individual and a family. Hoarding is a behavior or symptom not a diagnosis. Other diagnosis, such as, obsessive-compulsiveness disorder, depression, or attention-deficit disorder can certainly play a part. Learn more about the symptoms and treatments.
