How to make your New Year’s resolution stick
We all make New Year’s resolutions, but how many of us stick to them? Here are some tips to make sure your changes are for the long term, and not just for the month of January.
- Start small- Setting a resolution of exercising more? Plan 3-4 days at the gym per week, not 7. Trying to quit smoking? Maybe going cold-turkey isn’t the best option. Set goals you know you can keep to set yourself up for success.
- Take baby steps- Forming bad habits can take a lifetime, so don’t expect change to come quickly. Set small, attainable goals and don’t give up!
- Talk about it- Sharing your resolutions with friends and family can help keep you accountable.
- Don’t get down on yourself- If you slip up, don’t beat yourself up over it. Get back on the saddle and keep going. Minor setbacks will happen, resolve to recover and get back on track.
- Ask for help- Reach out to a therapist, dietician, or personal trainer. They can help you find out what goals are attainable and give you the tools to get there.
What are your resolutions this year? How are you planning on getting there?
