New Jersey may become first state to raise smoking age to 21
A bill has just been passed in the state Senate for New Jersey to raise the smoking age to 21 and may become law, despite the controversy. There are several cities that have raised the the legal age to 21 including New York City, municipalities in Hawaii and Massachusetts, and Englewood, N.J. Both Utah and Colorado also have tried to raise the age to 21, however both attempts have failed. Currently, the minimum age for buying tobacco products is 18 in all states except New Jersey, Alabama, Alaska, Utah, and the District of Columbia where the minimum age is 19.
This is a very controversial topic, with valid arguments on both sides. What do you think? Should the minimum age be 21? Should the minimum age remain? What are view points that are not addressed?
